LiDAR-Powered Robust Environmental Perception and Navigational Control for Autonomous Vehicles

The paper presents DeepIPCv2, an improved version of the previous DeepIPC model, which uses LiDAR point clouds as the main perception input instead of RGBD images. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of DeepIPCv2 under different illumination conditions (noon, evening, night) by comparing it with other models, such as TransFuser. The results show that DeepIPCv2 achieves the best drivability performance in all driving scenarios, especially in poor illumination conditions, thanks to its robust LiDAR-based perception. The authors will make the codes and data of DeepIPCv2 publicly available to support future research.
