The author, Sumit Raghuwanshi, shares his experience of participating in the Tally Codebrewers 2023 Hackathon. He describes the journey from discovering the hackathon, forming a team, and navigating the different rounds.
In the first round, the team leader (the author) completed an online quiz and a coding section, and the team was selected to move on to the second round. In the second round, the team had to choose between two tracks: Wizard of System Programming or Commander of Full Stack. They opted for the Commander of Full Stack track, which focused on web development and full-stack challenges.
The team then had 48 hours to develop a real-time speed typing game with single-player and multiplayer modes. They chose a tech stack that included React, Node.js, Socket.io, Tailwind CSS, and Firebase. During the development phase, the team faced the additional challenge of managing online assessments for campus placements, which coincided with the hackathon. Despite the exhaustion, they managed to complete and submit their project on time.
The team's project, WordsRun, was selected as one of the top 13 teams for the final demo. Although they did not win, the experience was valuable, and they were offered a three-month remote internship with Tally Solutions, which ultimately led to a pre-placement offer (PPO) interview.
The author shares key takeaways from the experience, such as the importance of collaboration, prioritizing tasks, and engaging with mentors. He also provides tips for future hackathon participants, including understanding the problem statement, focusing on basic requirements first, and preparing for demos.
