Core Concepts
Losing everything can be the best thing to happen, as it forces one to confront the inner void and learn to find fulfillment from within, rather than seeking it externally.
Abstract
The author shares their personal experience of losing everything they once cared deeply about - their successful business, meaningful work, and the identity they had worked hard to construct. Initially, they desperately tried to save their business, driven by the fear of loss and the pain of experiencing it. This led them to make decisions that were not aligned with their values, as they grasped at straws to keep the business afloat.
However, after exhausting all their efforts, the author finally allowed themselves to let go. This experience shook them to the core, breaking the model of who they thought they were and how the world needed to be for them to be okay. It forced them to look deeper, reflect, and go inwards to simply be.
The author realized that the real "matrix" was the one within, the rules and identities they had created for themselves. They had been trying to fill an inner void with external things, such as a successful business, meaningful work, and relationships. When these were taken away, the emptiness resurfaced, and the author had to confront it.
Through this process, the author's spirituality shifted from being a tool to build the life they wanted to the forefront, helping them discover a deeper essence of who they truly are. They recognized that when you lose a sense of who you are, you can discover a deeper truth about yourself. This experience of losing "everything" became the best thing to happen, as it allowed the author to learn to fill the inner void from within, rather than seeking fulfillment externally.
