Core Concepts
The MedBike project aims to provide an engaging and effective 2D interactive game for children under 18 with cardiac conditions, combining physical exercise with the spirit of gaming to enhance the rehabilitation process.
Abstract
The MedBike project is an innovative initiative in the field of pediatric cardiac rehabilitation. It is a 2D interactive game created specifically for children under the age of 18 who have cardiac conditions. The game is part of the MedBike system, a novel rehabilitation tool that combines physical exercise with the spirit of gaming.
The MedBike game provides children with a safe, controlled, and engaging environment in which to exercise and recover. It has three distinct levels of increasing intensity, each with its own set of environments and challenges that are tailored to different stages of rehabilitation. The levels include a racetrack, a scenic forest mountain setting, and a captivating space-themed environment.
In addition to the basic levels, the game also features a high-intensity "Wormhole" level, where users are encouraged to exert maximum effort and reach their peak cycling speed. The Wormhole level is designed to challenge users and motivate them to push their physical limits.
The game's design and layout are meticulously crafted to provide an engaging and user-friendly experience. The landing menu, restart menu, and in-game elements, such as the score display and timer, are all designed to enhance the overall user experience.
The development of the MedBike game was a collaborative effort, with each team member contributing to various aspects of the project, including project planning, research, Unity 3D development, level design, testing, and usability studies.
The usability study conducted with 21 participants provided valuable insights into user preferences and the overall application experience. The majority of users favored high-intensity interval training, and the game's time duration and high-intensity Wormhole level were well-received. The study also highlighted areas for improvement, such as the incorporation of customizable background music, additional levels and quests, and increased level complexity.
The future scope of the MedBike project includes implementing these enhancements to further improve the user experience and cater to the diverse needs of the target audience. The goal is to create a versatile and adaptive platform that can effectively support the rehabilitation process for children with cardiac conditions.
