Die Methode der Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) ermöglicht eine effiziente Approximation von Evolutionsproblemen durch niedrigdimensionale Modelle, die in Optimierungs- und Kontrollproblemen eingesetzt werden können.
Der Kern dieser Arbeit ist die Untersuchung der geometrischen Struktur von Adjoint-Systemen, die mit evolutionären partiellen Differentialgleichungen assoziiert sind, auf den vollständig kontinuierlichen, semi-diskreten und vollständig diskreten Ebenen sowie die Beziehungen zwischen diesen Ebenen. Es wird gezeigt, dass das mit einer evolutionären partiellen Differentialgleichung assoziierte Adjoint-System eine unendlich-dimensionale Hamiltonsche Struktur aufweist, die für die Verbindung der vollständig kontinuierlichen, semi-diskreten und vollständig diskreten Ebenen nützlich ist.
Das neue nicht-strenge Finsler-Lemma bietet notwendige und hinreichende Bedingungen für die Lösbarkeit linearer Matrixungleichungen mit nicht-strengen Ungleichungen, ohne Einschränkungen an die beteiligten Matrizen.
